HOPE Center Takes Some Giant Steps Forward-
By Eric Parkinson
VeAhavta President
About four years ago, I came to the conclusion
that the Grace Care Center needed to become an integrated facility – a
place that could be a home not only to Tamil Hindu and Christian
children, but also to Singhalese Buddhist and Muslim children.
I felt that no matter the outcome of the Sri Lankan peace process,
a segregated society would not be a part of the solution, particularly
in a region so small geographically. People would have to live
together respectfully; a good place to begin to inculcate that
mutual respect would be with children. If they could grow up
together, perhaps they would see each other not as enemies but
as friends. more
Meet Pathmapriya, Grace
Girls Home
For 18-year-old Pathmapriya Konalingam, Grace Care Center
has provided a sense of safety, refuge and, most often, family.
“I am very grateful to be at Grace,” Pathmapriya recently said. “One
day I would like to sponsor a child so they have the same opportunity I have
been given.” more
Mitch Ryder Concert
Review
By James A. Mitchell
VeAhavta Press Officer
“Oh a storm is threatening, my very life today
If I don’t get some shelter, I’m going to fade away
War … children … it’s just a shot
away…
Love … sister … is just a kiss away.”*
The Rolling Stones’ anthem, “Gimme Shelter,” has
long been a part of Mitch Ryder’s stage show; never have the words meant
as much as when dedicated to the orphan children and elders of Grace Care Center.
