Meet Anantharubi Thannasirajah (pictured above)
who was brought to the Grace Girls Home on November 3, 2002,
when she was 12 years old.
Anantharubi’s father died in the Sri Lankan civil war
when she was just 2, and her mother abandoned her shortly after
that. Before coming to the Grace Girls Home, she was surviving
in a refugee camp in Uppuveli, located close to the Grace Care
Center.
Since her birth, Anantharubi’s life has been a constant
struggle, one that has been marked by material poverty, a pervading
sense of hopelessness and a devastating absence of love.
Anantharubi will be 17 in August, 2007. In the four-and-a-half
years she’s been at the Grace Girls Home, she’s had
a safe place to live, receives nutritious meals and medical care,
goes to school, has lots of friends, and is finally receiving
the love she needs and deserves. She now aspires to become a
teacher.
Had it not been for her sponsor in the United States, Anantharubi
would likely still be in the refugee camp that she came from.
While we can’t expect to rescue every orphan or elder
in Sri Lanka, each child we do reach saves the world – their
world. Anantharubi is a reminder that every life is of infinite
value and must be cared for. Her story instructs us on how to
find meaning and fulfillment in life: save yourself and save
others, love yourself and love others, grow yourself and help
others do the same. As human beings, we must remember the value
that all lives bring to the world, including the life of Anantharubi
Thannasirajah, whose world has been saved by the loving kindness
of others. With your help, we can continue to rescue children
like Anantharubi.
Won’t you please help us save the world by agreeing to sponsor
a child or elder at the Grace Care Center?
On behalf of Anantharubi and the tens of thousands of other
children in Sri Lanka whose lives have not yet been noticed,
whose eyes have not yet been dried and whose screams have not
yet been heard, thank you in advance for your generous support.
