Through our Grace Daycare program at the Grace Care Center, VeAhavta provides free daycare services for children ages 3-8. Most of these children live in nearby fishing villages or camps for "Internally Displaced Persons" - that is, refugee camps made up of people who have been displaced by the long civil war in this region.
Grace Daycare provides about 60 children each day with a nutritious meal and basic pre-school education. This allows parents the time they desperately need to earn an income, search for employment, or begin to rebuild their shattered lives - and it also allows the children to have a fighting chance at a future, and to have some long overdue fun!
Visitors lucky enough to spend time with these friendly, amazingly happy youngsters recognize the potential for this program. The children are from the diverse population of Trincomalee, and represent all of Sri Lanka’s major ethnic and religious groups - groups among which there has been violent conflict for decades. Playtime, however, pays little attention to those historical differences. The children get to see each other as people and as equals - not as enemies - and the smiles are the same no matter the language spoken.
We need your help to keep this important program going. Please consider making a monthly tax-deductible donation to Grace.
