About Volunteering

Would you like to volunteer your services for the benefit of the orphans, widows and destitute in Sri Lanka? VeAhavta is always looking for volunteers and we offer many opportunities to get involved.

Each year (usually during the summer or early fall), an officer or director from VeAhavta travels to Sri Lanka, usually with a small group of volunteers, for approximately three weeks to conduct an audit and an on-site inspection of the facilities at the Grace Care Center and to work on various local projects. We also offer other volunteer opportunities available throughout the year.

Almost anyone is qualified to volunteer for VeAhavta in some capacity. VeAhavta offers volunteer opportunities in six different areas of interest: Education, Social Services, Medicine, Maintenance, International Commerce and Administration.

  • Education activities include teaching children (ages 4-18) English as a second language, English composition, mathematics and computers.

  • Social Services activities include counseling children who have experienced trauma from the Sri Lankan civil war and from natural and personal disasters, providing career counseling for children and adults, offering nutritional guidance, and working with professionals in Sri Lanka to improve the lives and living conditions for the residents of the Grace Care Center.

  • Medical activities include providing medical care for the residents and staff of the Grace Care Center and for indigent populations in the Trincomalee area through VeAhavta’s Mercy Mobile Clinic program, providing instruction in public health and medical training for health care professionals in Sri Lanka.

  • Maintenance activities include improving, repairing and maintaining the Grace Care Center and developing new or more effective facilities for other indigent populations in the Trincomalee area.

  • International Commercial activities include developing Fair Trade practices in Sri Lanka and working with various organizations and IT professionals to create eCommerce solutions to overcome some of the economic barriers faced by the residents of the Grace Care Center.

  • Administrative activities include helping to coordinate other VeAhavta Volunteers, maintaining and improving our website, helping to streamline and better automate our programs and operations, and assisting with fundraising and awareness-raising activities.

If you are interested in volunteering, please complete an application and return it to VeAhavta. Your can fill out an application here.

Once we have received your completed application, our Volunteer Coordinator will contact you within 30 days to discuss the volunteer opportunities that are available to you. (Please note that applications that are not fully completed will not be considered.)
